A decorative oil painting of a gentleman in 18th century dress wearing a powdered wig and holding a hat in his left hand. On the back of the stretcher a pencil inscription reads ‘by Pond’, (presumably Arthur Pond (c.1700-1758) then the name ‘Armitage’. The picture has been Relined and although there is no damage to the lining there are a couple of small areas on the front of the painting that need attention, which I believe can be done simply. The frame is the original carved and gilded frame which has been overpainted with bronze colour, probably when the painting had been restored, many years ago. Basically the painting is in good order other than a few signs of age and ready to hang.
