Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Both of these are set with wonderful Amethyst paste stones, the lid being facet cut and the tip of cabochon form. With the lid open the lightly gilt, pierced and beautifully engraved vinaigrette grill is revealed, along with a makers mark to the top inside. To the front is a shield shaped vacant cartouche and the vinaigrette is fitted with a suspension chain and C clasp for the brooch pin. A fabulous example, still usable and wearable today and making for a great addition to any collection. Dimensions below.
