Georgian Oil Painting - Portrait Study Of A Young Man

Here is a really characterful and beautifully sized early 19th century portrait in oils of a young man, set into a broad gilded frame.

Measuring only 31cm, by 26cm framed ( the canvas is 21cm by 15cm) , this picture has a real charm with the gilding contrasting beautifully against the rich earthy hues of the painting.

Whoever this young man is remains unknown, but studying his dress and coiffured hair style would place him in an affluent family sometime in either the late 18th or early 19th century. The portrait is unsigned, but tantalisingly has some writing on the back which I am yet to decipher - I have included a photograph!

The painting is in good antique condition and has the expected craquelure of oils of this age, the frame also showing signs of wear to the gilding - but as I hope that the photographs show, it displays beautifully and would be a really handsome addition to any room.
