Antique silver Fontainmelon wrist watch, 1922.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is stamped beneath the dial with the brevet number CH51482 which relates to a 1911 patent for the winding and time setting mechanism. The patent is in the name of Fabrique d'Horlogerie Fontainemelon. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 33.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the articulated lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London 1922 with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The case is in good condition just some slight unevenness to the back, not too detrimental.

The lens is in lovely condition with just a small chip at the bottom, barely visible to the naked eye (some reflection showing in the photos).

The dial is in good condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. The dial looks good to the naked eye. If viewed through a jeweller’s loupe, there are three short very faint hairlines but they are difficult to see.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
