Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fold-over games and supper table is a dual-purpose piece of occasional furniture designed with a hinged top that folds out to double its surface area. Popularised in the 18th and 19th centuries, these tables served as space-saving demilune console tables when closed against a wall and converted into round or square surfaces for card games or casual dining.

Tables from this period typically utilise hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, often featuring brass mouldings, mounts, and stringing. Construction techniques include traditional mortise and tenon joinery, fluted tapered legs, and double-hinged tops supported by a gate-leg or rear pivoting mechanism.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, original brass hinges with historic wear, and natural patination on both the wood and metal components. Examining the underside reveals hand-sawn timber framing, historic screw threads, and mechanical swivels or folding supports that show age-appropriate wear.

Position the table against a narrow wall, in a hallway, or behind a sofa as a decorative console when closed. Pair it with a framed wall mirror above the table and style the top with a pair of brass candlesticks, ceramic lamps, or small decorative trays.

Clean the wood surface regularly using a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply a beeswax polish once or twice a year, wiping along the grain. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the brass mounts, as aggressive polishing can damage surrounding wood finishes; instead, gently dust the brass with a dry microfibre cloth.
