Large Mediterranean scene oil painting on canvas by the French painter Francois Omer (1885-1950) c.1930. 59" long canvas. Showing the seafront and quayside at Martigues near Marseille on the French Cote de Azur. In the foreground fishermen in small open boats fold their nets against a background of rich blue sea and sky and the sun-bleached buildings of the harbour. Very well painted in a bold impasto technique in thick oil paint. Clearly signed in the lower left hand corner. Presented in the original ebonised frame also named for the artist. The rear of the canvas is titled and signed and carries Omer's printed paper label recording his membership of two Paris Salon exhibitions. Some obvious damage to the surface of the frame, otherwise good condition.
