The wool on this fabulous little Teke Turkmen wedding rug is literally, like velvet. This is as good as it gets!

Wedding rugs were made, as the name implies, for the bride and groom to stand on at their wedding ceremony, and take their marriage vows. Such rugs had to be the finest and best of their type and were thus highly-prized possessions and never intended for sale.

With three vertical rows of eight Teke guls on a beautiful watermelon-red ground, this amazing little rug, made circa 1890-1900, is in excellent condition with a full, lustrous, velvety pile. This is truly, a little gem.
