Antique Equestrian Oil Painting – “The Mint” Thoroughbred Stallion, 1912 by T. B. Whitby – In the Manner of Munnings

This distinguished early 20th-century equestrian portrait, painted in 1912 by Timothy B. Whitby, is executed in the manner of Sir Alfred Munnings (1878–1959), the most celebrated British equestrian artist of the 20th century. Whitby’s confident brushwork, sensitive use of colour, and strong composition capture not only the form of the Thoroughbred but also its nobility, character, and presence.

The painting depicts “The Mint”, a chestnut Thoroughbred stallion and sire, shown in full profile facing left.
