Description

A late Victorian Royal Cauldon pottery two handled vase dating to c1900. The vase is profusely decorated with an abundant design, known as Madeira (see base) of ripe fruits, possibly peaches, on leafy and blossomed branches. The background colour, repeated on the handles, is a strong cobalt blue, with leaves and branches in blue, white and green. The fruits are painted in their natural orangey tones. The design is known to be the work of renowned potter Frederick Rhead (1880-1942), though he never signed his work. The vase is in perfect condition, no damage.
