Description

Wonderful antique sterling silver potpourri holder in Neoclassical style. The round bellied body sits atop a cast three-legged frame that is raised on hoof feet. The tops of the legs are decorated with cast rams' heads and the bowl is trimmed with applied floral borders. The pull-off lid is hand-engraved and pierced with a foliate design and is surmounted by a round knop handle with acanthus relief decoration.

Fantastic craftsmanship with great attention to detail from the bristle on the hooves to the rams' eyes. The beauty of the bowl is further enhanced with gold-washed accents to the silver.

Hallmarked for Chester, one of the centres of English provincial silver.
