Grandfather Clock

19th century
Description

This exceptional small round dial London longcase clock, retailed by Bentley and Beck of the Royal Exchange London . The eight day five pillar movement with shaped plates, stirkes on the hour on a bell, with a convex painted dial, roman numerals and blue steel hands, with the makers name Bentley and Beck Royal exchange London to the dial , the clock has a silent and strike faciility to the dial . The movement stamped Handley and Moore this is stamped to the front plate , convex glass with inner and outer brass bezels complete with its original brass cased weights , with substantial wood rod pedulum with brass bob.

The lancet top curl mahogany case with round fretted hood sides panels, quater round coloumns, brass inlays with solid ebony mouldings by a exceptional cabinet maker of his day . The clock has taken on a superb deep patination including the weights and pedulum which has been created over the 200 plus years with original hood, door and winding keys.

Handley and Moore Clerkwell close London 1798-1824

Two apprentices of Thwaites supplied the trade with high quality clock movements Handley died in 1824 the bussiness continued under the name of John Moore & Sons supplying house and turret clocks including two

Blair Castle , Althorp Park and York Minster to name a few

Royal Trust collection lists a mantle clock by Bentley and Beck from the Queen Mary collection at Malborough House and then moved to Buckingham Palace
