Majestic Japanese Meiji Or Taisho (early 20thc) Pair Of Beautiful Black & Gold Lacquer Nested Trays

Ompressive Japanese Meiji or Taisho (early 20thC) pair of beautiful black & gold lacquer nested trays, decorated in predominantly gold and red hiramaki-e with an identical design of an elaborately tasselled pouch lying over stalks of windswept rice, branches of coral and a flaming tama (wish-granting jewel) on a lustrous roiro-nuri ground, with embellishments of e-nashiji, kirigane, and subtle silver hiramaki-e. Provided with a wooden storage box inscribed on the lid Ine takara zukushi maki-e kasanebon (rice stalks and treasures maki-e stacking trays), signed inside the lid Ogaki with a seal. The larger tray measures 27.5cm x 27.5cm x 3cm (10¾in x 10¾in x 1 3/16in), the smaller tray 26.1cm x 26.1cm x 2.8cm (10¼in x 10¼in x 1 1/16in).
