A highly decorative and fabulous quality early 19th Century painted satinwood card/games table in the Sheraton style, having a nice figured top with painted floral decoration, the top opening to reveal a baize playing surface, the frieze below with further painted floral patterns, supported on four square tapering legs. The table is in lovely condition and profusely painted all over. Circa 1820.

Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.

During the late Georgian and Regency periods, satinwood imported from the West Indies and East India became highly favoured for cabinetmaking. Furniture makers frequently decorated these pieces with delicate hand-painted Neo-Classical motifs, creating versatile tables designed both for social gaming and display.

These tables typically feature solid and veneered satinwood, often adorned with painted polychrome garlands or marquetry inlays. Construction involves a fold-over top supported by a rear gate-leg mechanism, revealing a felt or baize playing surface when opened.
