Antique Stauffer & Co half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality stem-winding movement which is working nicely. This is a high grade movement with screw set jewels in gold settings, and snailcam regulator.

The movement carries the SS&Co trademark with the three triangles above. This trademark was first registered in 1886, with the triangles referencing Stauffer’s third quality watches. Third quality in this instance refers to their best watches with first quality being basic, second quality better than first and third quality their very best.

The movement is all protected by an inner hinged cover which has some surface marking.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Moon model from the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific manufacturer of cases and supplier to various watch makers.

The case is in good condition with general light surface marking, nothing serious at all, and a hint of an indentation to the front. Dark blue enamel filled Roman numerals to the front, surrounding a small central lens.

The dial looks good to the naked eye… if viewed through a magnifying loupe, there are a couple of very faint hairlines. Original blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
