Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A carriage clock is a compact, spring-driven timepiece originally created for travel during the early nineteenth century. Characterised by a rectangular brass case with glass side panels and a folding carrying handle, these clocks became standard domestic accessories throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Traditional carriage clocks feature brass cases, bevelled glass panels, and white enamel dials mounted on metal plates. The internal mechanical movements were manufactured using brass plates, steel arbors, and balance wheel escapements.

Authentic antique carriage clocks feature substantial brass cases, hand-assembled mechanical movements, and fired enamel dials with Roman numerals. Stamped maker or retailer marks on the dial or backplate, alongside period-appropriate construction detail and minor oxidisation, indicate authenticity.

Place a carriage clock on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or office desk alongside leather accessories and framed artwork. Its compact size and polished metal finish allow it to function as a focal accent in modern or classic interior schemes.

Dust the brass casing regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip protective lacquers or patina. Mechanical movements should be overhauled and lubricated by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
