A wonderful landscape painting of figures in a horse and cart crossing a ford by George Turner. The cart, with two seated figures is shown approaching a ford. One of the horses can be seen stopping at the edge of the water for a drink as a dog watches on. Turner was living at Barrow on Trent at the time of this painting and the location would most likely be somewhere he was familiar with.
 
George Turner was a landscape painter born in Cromford, Derbyshire around 1843 to Thomas and Mary Turner. His father was a tailor and encouraged his son’s natural talent for art. Although largely self- taught, he was able to set himself up as a professional artist by the age of 20. He also turned his hand to private art teaching as a young man.
