We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Welsh press cupboard, historically known as a deuddarn or tridarn depending on the number of tiers, is a regional storage piece crafted in Wales during the 18th century. It typically features an upper section with fielded panel cupboard doors over a lower base of drawers and large cupboards, designed to store household linens and clothes.

These cupboards were built using locally sourced British oak, joined with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints held together by wooden pegs. Details often include fielded panels with pointed ogee arches, turned drop finials, and cast brass swan-neck handles.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular peg construction, original hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, and age-related oxidation on the interior oak. Regional motifs such as ogee-arched panel shapes and overhanging canopies with turned pendants are classic indicators of Welsh origin.

A large dark oak press cupboard acts as a focal architectural piece in modern spaces. Contrast its deep tones against muted neutral plaster walls, pairing it with contemporary textured ceramics or neutral linen textiles to balance its visual weight.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent the solid oak panels from warping or splitting.
