A fine early 19th century carved mahogany snuff shoe with sliding lid. Very ornately decorated with brass pinwork creating an elaborate pattern across the toe centred around a love heart. The lace holes are marked out with further fine detailing either side and to the cover. The sole is also very ornately decorated. A lovely, interesting example, c.1830/1840.
It measures 11.5cm (4 1/2'') long, 4cm (1 9/16'') high and 3.2cm (1 1/4'') wide.
It is in good condition but sadly with a small chip to the top. This clearly happened a long time ago as it has been smoothed over with years of handling and the patina matches that of the shoe overall, which is a lovely colour and finish. The cover also has an historic split which will have been repaired and the loss of three of the larger pins it appears, but it fits very snugly. No other knocks or dings, etc, and the other decoration is all in excellent condition.
