Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III fretwork mirrors typically feature scroll-cut timber silhouettes, shaped top crestings, and bottom aprons. Originating in 18th-century Britain, they often include a thin parcel-gilt inner slip moulding framing the mirror plate.

These mirrors were constructed using a softwood backboard, usually pine or spruce, veneered with rich hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany. The carved decorative borders frequently feature applied gold leaf detailing on carved plaster or wood.

Authentic pieces display signs of age, such as hand-sawn secondary timber on the reverse, irregularities in the hand-cut fretwork, original metal hanging rings, and natural light foxing or oxidisation on the original mirror glass.

A fretwork wall mirror works well positioned above a hallway console table, a dining room sideboard, or a drawing-room mantelpiece. Its strong architectural profile contrasts effectively against modern wall panelling or plain painted backdrops.

Clean the wood frame using a dry microfiber cloth and occasionally apply a natural beeswaxes polish along the grain. Avoid chemical glass cleaners near the gilt slip, as moisture can cause gilding flaking or timber warping.
