Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were developed in the early 19th century in France as portable mechanical timepieces designed for travel. Oval-cased miniature models emerged in the late 19th century, featuring curved glass panels set in brass frames to showcase the internal escapement mechanism while remaining easily transportable.

Authentic 19th-century carriage clocks typically feature gilt-brass or polished brass cases with bevelled glass viewing panels. The dial is usually made from white enamel with painted Roman numerals, housing a spring-driven mechanical movement, often stored in a velvet-lined leather outer case for protection during transport.

Authentic pieces display heavy brass construction, bevelled glass panels without modern molding seams, and a hand-painted white enamel dial. Look for a top glass aperture displaying the platform escapement, original winding key fittings on the rear plate, and accompanying custom-fitted leather travel cases.

A miniature carriage clock serves as a sophisticated accent piece on an executive desk, bedside table, mantelpiece, or styled within a bookshelf vignette. Pairing the warm brass tones and leather outer case with dark wood surfaces, leather-bound books, or modern minimalist decor creates an intriguing tactile contrast.

Keep the mechanical clock away from extreme temperatures, high humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent lacquer breakdown and brass oxidisation. Dust the glass panels gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoid applying harsh metal polishes, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
