Exquisite Carved Black Forest Figural Letter Opener - Dog - C.1890

Description

I had to pay a little more for this adorable letter opener but couldn't leave him behind due to the superb quality of the carving, very fine with wonderful detailing.

The entire piece has the most wonderful patina, very tactile and the carving so fine you can see every wisp of his coat, just exquisite.

The blade is signed by the the maker, I am sure it reads " J. Berthelin ".

Dating to the late Victorian era, around 1890 it remains in excellent condition, measuring 10" in length.
