Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Terracotta lion statues were commonly commissioned during the 18th and 19th centuries as symbolic guardians for grand estates, public buildings, and formal gardens. The material allowed for detailed modelling and weather-resistant durability outdoors.

Statues from this period were typically hand-modelled or cast in plaster moulds using refined clay mixture before being fired at high temperatures. This process created a dense, water-resistant ceramic material with a natural matte finish.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit natural weathering, surface patination, and minor firing imperfections consistent with historic kiln techniques. Original mould seam lines or hand-tooled facial and mane detailing also indicate period manufacture.

These sculptures serve as grounding focal points when placed symmetrically beside entrance portals, on patio terraces, or flanking a hearth indoors. The warm terracotta tone pairs effectively with neutral stone, dark timber, and foliage.

Clean the surface periodically using clear water and a soft brush, avoiding chemical detergents or high-pressure washers. In regions subject to freezing temperatures, protecting or sheltering the pieces prevents water absorption and frost damage.
