Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A girandole is a decorative branched light fixture featuring multiple arms and often incorporating a central mirror to reflect and amplify light across a room. Emerging in 17th-century France, these fixtures became prominent features in formal interiors during the Rococo and Neoclassical periods.

Historically, girandoles were constructed from cast brass, bronze, or composition metal, which was then gilded using techniques such as mercury gilding or gold leaf application. Reflective backings consisted of silvered glass or mercurial mirror plates held within cast frames.

Authentic Rococo pieces feature characteristic asymmetric scrollwork, rocaille shell motifs, floral cresting, and foliate casting. Look for heavy cast metalwork, hand-chiselled detailing on the reverse, and natural surface patination or oxidisation within the recessed mouldings.

A Rococo girandole can be styled as a focal accent on a narrow feature wall, positioned in pairs flanking a mantlepiece, or set above a console table. The ornate gilded frame provides contrast against muted neutral paint finishes or dark, moody wall tones.

Dust gilt metal regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural hair brush to avoid scratching the gilded surface. Avoid liquid metal polishes or abrasive chemical cleaners, which strip gilding; clean glass mirrors separately using a damp cloth applied carefully away from metal borders.
