Primitive Oak Coffer C.1660

17th century
Description

17th.c. oak coffer c.1660. Essentially a six plank chest, though with joined (rather than single piece) boards. Measuring 49" wide, a little larger than the majority we see of this style. Study enough to use as a hall seat with storage. Simple moulded detail to the lid and front, original iron hoop hinges and lockplate. Later oak bearers reinforcing to the underside of the lid. Otherwise very good original condition and lovely colour and patina. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
