Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Seated lion sculptures resting a paw on a sphere derive from classical Medici lions, originally carved in marble during antiquity and placed at the Villa Medici in Rome during the sixteenth century. They symbolise vigilance and power, becoming popular subjects for Grand Tour bronze replicas throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Traditional bronze sculptures were cast using either the lost-wax process or sand-casting techniques before being hand-chased to refine fine surface details. They were finished with a chemically applied patina and secured with threaded rods to hardwood, marble, or ebonised timber bases.

Authentic period cast bronzes display detailed hand-chasing around intricate areas like the mane and paws, along with a deep patina formed by chemical oxidisation rather than surface paint. The undersides often feature hand-cut threads, square nuts, or early mounting plates attaching the figure to its plinth.

Display these figures symmetrically on a mantelpiece, alongside leather-bound books on an office desk, or positioned within a styled bookshelf. Their dark patination and structured forms create contrast when set against contemporary neutral walls or rich jewel-toned backdrops.

Dust the bronze regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth or a dry natural-bristle brush, avoiding liquid cleaners and abrasive chemical polishes that strip the protective patina. A light application of microcrystalline wax once a year helps safeguard the surface finish.
