Antique Sterling Silver Box with Orange Guilloche Enamel - David Andersen C.1900

We are delighted to offer this solid silver orange guilloche enamel box made by the famous Norwegian maker, David Anderson with marks c.1888-1925.

The box, whilst modest in size, is packed with delightful embellishments and fine craftsmanship of enamelware, engine turning and embossing.

The top lid features a wonderful deep orange enamel with a very finely engine-turned-snake-like sunburst pattern encompassed by a floral border. The guilloche work is impressive as expected with Anderson's wares and presents a higher degree of precision and decorativeness than what one may usually expect.

The side of the oval box is further decorated with vine leaves and grape motifs.

A fully gilt surface on the interior complements the outer orange colour as well as contrasts the silver tone. Not only does this serve an aesthetic purpose but protects the silver from tarnishing with the contents held within.

Aside from its collectable nature, the box would also be a wonderful and practical snuff box, pill case or even storage for small objects. A wonderful example of fine enamel silverware in a modest yet practical form - ideal for collectors of enamels, boxes or as a very special gift.

Marks for 925 and David Andersen are present on the base of the box.

CONDITION

Great Condition - The enamel box is in good antique condition, with no major damage or issues. Some minor surface scratches/wear commensurate with age however, no chips or significant damage to the enamel. A slight area to enamel where slight contrast is present as seen in the photos.

We aim to overemphasize and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect the usage of the items.
