Original 19th Century French Burr Walnut Writing Cupboard.

A fine antique cupboard incorporating a pull-out writing surface with many uses .

We bring to you this marvellous fine quality 19th century French writing table in Walnut believed to be made around C1880.

This original cupboard features burr Walnut veneer to the top, drawer and door fronts which is framed by Walnut parquetry veneer in the typical French style. The cupboard unusually features a pull out red baize covered standing height (or tall bar stool) writing surface above its single drawer which is also red baize lined and complete with its original ornate brass dropper handle, original working lock complete with its original key.

Below the drawer is a simple moulding which partitions the cupboard compartment. The twin cupboard doors are exquisitely crafted with burr walnut centres framed by moulding and parquetry veneer to surround. Flanking the beautiful doors either side are finely carved corbels tied together with fluted pillars between embellished by 4 beveled plaques on each corner of the frontage. Unlocking the doors and opening reveals a large cupboard compartment with a central shelf which is removable. The whole cupboard stands proudly on simple break-front moulded plinth hiding wide cast iron castors underneath which allows this cupboard free movement.

This fantastic cupboard features its beautiful original rich Walnut colour and original French polished finish.

This very useful cupboard is ideal to be used as a sofa table, lamp table, as a small sideboard, in a hallway or in an office with a useful temporary desktop and lots of useful storage beneath. It would also be ideal for working on a laptop using the pull out writing surface to hold the laptop and being able to store the folded laptop in the drawer below and lock it away.

A beautiful French collectors piece and a very desirable rare find in this original condition.

We have just sympathetically restored, cleaned and waxed this cupboard to give a natural shine and enhance the surface.

This item is in superb condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents here and there. However, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character.
