John Howkins Antiques has dated this Pollard Oak Secretaire Bookcase to the 16th Century.
The doors open to 3 adjustable shelves all retaining the original tooled leather dust covers with brass studded detail. The base section having a deep secretaire drawer with panelled front, foliage carved centre panel and top quality cast brass handles. The hinged drop down fall opens to reveal a wonderful satinwood interior consisting of 4 pigeonholes above a wide drawer and flanked by 2 banks of 3 drawers all retaining the original handles. The dark leather and gilt tooled writing surface is original and does show signs of wear but is functional. Below are a pair offended panelled doors with beautifully foliage carved centres and again with original brass cast handles. The stiles with further fluting and carved detail and the whole raised on a shaped plinth base. Condition- Excellent with all original cast gilded handles and working locks with keys.
