A Regency English Fusee, Drop-dial Wall Clock, Marked "Gwr" On Dial. Circa 1835.

Sold by: Peter Harris Clocks & Militaria

A good example of a mahogany Drop-dial wall clock.

The eight day duration, fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, four knopped pillars and shouldered plates. Also a substantial pendulum.

The dial which is separate to the surround has its original cream and now crackled base paint, black minute ring and Roman hour numerals and also, the letters ''GWR'' to the upper centre. GWR probably indicates ''The Great Western Railway'' but as the dial is a painted dial, it''s hard to prove.

It has a cast brass bezel. The mahogany veneered case consists of a very narrow and moulded dial surround over a drop trunk which has gilt brass decoration and ebony inlay.

It is flanked by fan ''ears'' with fluted moulding to the front and sides. The convex bottom also has ebony line inlay

of a geometric design.

It also has a cockbeaded curved door. One side has an access door.

Circa: 1835 (late Regency).
