A very unusual and decorative Victorian walnut “X” frame armchair. The whole having very good polychrome painted decoration, the shaped top rail having a dragon or griffin within scrolling foliage joining the open arms with further decoration inside and out. The “X” frame base similarly decorated and the chair is supported an sledge bases with casters below. This unusual chair was previously owned by the Bishop of Glasgow, Charles McDonald Renfrew.
