Antique Treen 19thc Boxwood Single "Codds" Bottle Opener Stamped Lemonade. English C1880-90.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

A fine example of a turned late 19thc boxwood ''codds'' bottle opener, stamped on the top LEMONADE.....these curious collectors items are becoming quite hard to find and therefore very collectable....they were used to push the glass marble stopper in the neck of the lemonade ''codds'' bottle down, to break the seal so the lemonade could be drunk....afterwards a lot of the bottles were broken and the marble stoppers were used by lads in their catapults...! This opener is nicely turned and has a fine colour and condition....

English C1880-90.
