Late C19th / early C20th Chinoiserie decorated vermilion red lacquer tripod table or candlestand in the late C18th George III period style.
Elegant octagonal-topped table decorated with scarlet or vermilion red lacquer and Chinoiserie decoration and gilded highlights . The reeded-edge lacquer top decorated with a typical Chinoiserie scene of a landscape with a pavilion , mountains and exotic birds .
Raised on a turned wrythen column onto swept tripod supports with gilt ball feet , the legs with corresponding Chinoiserie decoration.
The reverse of the hinged tilting top fitted with a gilt-brass period-style ‘banjo’ catch .
A stylish and decorative table , being a faithful copy of a rare and important C18th period example.
In excellent original condition with one minor historic repaired crack to one leg , though uncompromised and structurally sound and strong. Minor wear to lacquered surface commensurate with age , use and purpose.
