A Lovely period restored davenport
This superb original Davenport desk features fine Boxwood & Mahogany marquetry inlays and stringings in a Geometric and floral design to the top stationary compartment and writing surface surround. The desk has simple geometric inlays to the kneehole back, strung flanking supports incorporating shaped brackets to support. This very usable and compact desk has a lift up fitted stationary compartment with lockable lid. The sloped writing surface features a brand new Burgundy gold tooled aniline leather skiver which we have replaced as part of the restoration. Lifting the lockable writing surface reveals a simple fitted Mahogany interior with 4 divided shaped top pigeon holes with Ebonised edges.
The desk also has 4 deep quality dovetail constructed smoothly operating drawers on the right side and dummy drawer fronts on the left. This very versatile, functional writing desk is well suited to laptop use as it has a lift up lid with a lockable storage compartment to store the laptop and a leather skiver slope to aid writing or even typing on as the slope is a more comfortable position to type. The desk is also polished on the back enabling this desk to look at home and elegant placed almost anywhere in a room. This desk is complete with all of its original locks which are all operational with 2 keys, one of which unlocks the drawers, whereas the other locks the stationary compartment and lid.
We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining original patina and carefully waxing this item to enhance the French polished finish and preserve it for many years to come.
