Early 19th Century Mahogany Apothecary Cabinet

18th century
Description

Early 19th century mahogany apothecary cabinet, the interior with five baise-lined compartments above a bank of five drawers one of which is deep and divided, another shallower and lined with baise compartments and three small drawers with sliding wooden covers. All fitted with original turned ivory knobs, all enclosed by a pair of hinged doors each containing nine baise-lined compartments.  The rear with a concealed sliding panel enclosing four baise-lined compartments containing a number of original square glass bottles and a collection of miscellaneous medicine bottles of various dates and origins.  The exterior faded to a mellow golden colour and with a brass swan’s-neck carrying handle and inset brass escutcheons.  Circa 1815

John Beazor Antiques is a family firm, established in 1875 and based in Cambridge since 1940. We are a traditional antiques shop, but very much in the 21st century. We deal in 18th and early 19th century furniture, barometers and clocks. We choose our stock for its originality and for the quality of its colour, patination and design.

We are members of the BADA. We do not exhibit at fairs preferring to deal from our Cambridge shop where we hold Open Weekends from time to time.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
