Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III provincial furniture, produced between 1760 and 1820, emphasizes functional design, native hardwoods, and simple geometric proportions. Unlike elaborate urban pieces, regional country chairs rely on sturdy joinery, drop-in or solid timber seats, and straight or gently turned legs with reinforcing stretchers.

Craftsmen predominantly used local English hardwoods including oak, elm, ash, and beech. Elm was favoured for solid chair seats due to its cross-grained strength that resisted splitting, while oak provided durable framing and legs.

Authentic period chairs feature hand-planed surfaces, irregular saw marks, pegged mortise and tenon joints, and natural wear patterns on the front stretchers and seat edges. Timber shrinkage over centuries often results in slightly oval stretchers and subtle structural asymmetry.

Assembled sets of country chairs bring subtle texture and historical contrast to modern spaces. They pair effectively with contemporary minimalist dining tables, concrete surfaces, or traditional scrubbed pine tables, balancing clean modern lines with historic timber patination.

Maintain timber using a high-quality beeswax polish applied sparingly once or twice a year to protect the surface finish. Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or joint loosening.
