We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in Italy, a credenza evolved from a low serving table into a decorative storage cabinet with flat surfaces, cupboards, and drawers. During the 19th century, Victorian makers adapted French design influences to create elaborate credenzas featuring glazed display ends and marquetry inlay.

These pieces typically feature figure-rich wood veneers, such as burr walnut or rosewood, set with contrasting timber inlays for decorative patterns. Construction frequently incorporates cast gilt-bronze ormolu mounts, hand-painted porcelain plaques, and bowed glass side panels.

Authentic 19th-century examples exhibit hand-cut veneer joinery, dovetail drawer joints, and cast metal mounts fixed with period screws. Look for natural wood aging, minor finish oxidation, and hand-painted ceramic detailing.

Position the cabinet as a focal feature in a hallway, dining room, or living space to contrast against clean architectural lines. Balance the rich timber tones by pairing the piece with contemporary artwork mounted above or understated decorative glassware.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heating vents to prevent the veneer from lifting or drying out. Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the wood finish.
