A superb pair of 17thc oak carved corbels....corbels are carved brackets, that can be made of stone, wood or even metal....they are usually placed to support the weight of elements above them, such as roofs, beams, balconies, and overhangs.....they are often carved, like this pair to enhance the beauty of a room....you often find them in grand houses, churches, cathedrals, castles ....this fine pair are carved typically of the period with oak leaf and central trailing beadwork....in very nice condition and have never been polished, as they would have been out of reach..!
