Antique Longcase Clock Long Buckby

19th century
Description

A slim, well proportioned Northamptonshire Georgian longcase clock. A swan-neck hood pediment with central brass finial. Corinthium brass capped hood columns with rear quarters. Side glass hood apertures. Dentil cornice moulding below the hood and a parquetry inlay to the trunk door. An early example of a painted dial with raised corner decorations, date, seconds and lunar moon phases. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

William Clarke of Long Buckby is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working circa 1795. The moon phase is moved manually and has never been connected to the drive of the mechanism.
