William Jourdain history
William Jourdain II inherited the family clockmaking business in 1747 from his father, a Huguenot immigrant of the same name. William senior arrived in Spitalfields in the 1680s, by the turn of the 18th century he had become known for his musical and chiming clocks. William II continued in his father''s footsteps until he was admitted to William Sutton''s Hospital, near Smithfield in 1778 where he remained until his death in 1782.
