Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this charming Meiji period (1868-1912) cloisonne enamel lidded box almost certainly made by the Ando company during the golden period of cloisonne making circa 1910. The lid of the pale green enamel box is cleverly shaded to give the impression of an underwater scene of a pair of crabs among reeds, the reeds rendered in traditional cloisonne with the use of silver wire, undoubtedly the stand out feature of the box are the pair of crabs finely detailed in moriage ( in relief) a technique perfected by the Ando company whilst working with Kawade Shibataro, the delightful box is silk lined and carries the Jungin (pure silver ) mark to the inner rim, an absolute joy and a perfect addition to your enamel or Japanese works of art collection.
