Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is a free-standing tabletop mirror developed in the 18th and 19th centuries to sit atop dressing tables or chests of drawers for personal grooming.

Victorian dressing mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods and decorative veneers such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, paired with mercury-silvered glass plates and brass adjustment fittings.

Authentic Early Victorian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the base drawers, hand-turned support columns, original brass side screws or pivot fittings, and natural foxing or oxidisation on the antique glass plate.

Place the mirror on top of a contemporary console table, bedroom sideboard, or vanity area to introduce historical contrast, depth, and practical storage to modern living spaces.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the grain to maintain the patination; clean the glass using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water, avoiding harsh chemicals near the silvering.
