Description

A Charming Italian Polychrome Painted Seat or Bench in the Baroque Taste. Late C18th/Early C19th. The carved back in the form of a cartouche with central heraldic shield. The crest with Italian national flag colours incorporated to its lower half. This was more than likely the crest of a family from Italian nobility that commissioned the piece. The back hand painted in architectural form in the tromp l'oeil style. Decorated with central crest which are flanked by C-Scrolls to its lower section with scalloped shell and floral decoration. The painted seat sits on a serpentine shaped apron and nicely formed cabriole legs, again, beautifully painted with floral detail. Ideal for a bedroom, bathroom, hallway or boot room. A good looking functional piece of antique furniture in good useable condition. Wear commensurate with age. Seat height is 50cm.
