This attractive crested and armorial Victorian silver entree dish was made in London in 1859 by Robert Garrard and measures 13.75 inches long including handles by 8.25 inches wide, it has a beaded border around the base border, the handles and the lid ring and is crested to one side with a lion rampant below a crown and opposite a coat of arms bearing the bannered motto in hoc signo vinces meaning in this sign thou shalt conquer, it is fully and clearly hallmarked under the base and inside the lid with the handle also being marked with the makers mark, monarchs head and lion passant. The dish is in very good condition and weighs 36.95 ounces or 1149 grams.
