Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A thangka is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist painting executed on cotton or silk cloth, depicting sacred deities, spiritual scenes, or complex geometric mandalas. Historically used as devotional aids and teaching tools, these works follow strict iconographic rules and grid proportions.

Traditional thangkas were painted using ground mineral pigments, organic dyes, and natural binders on a prepared cotton canvas. Details were rendered with mineral pigments and occasionally gold paint, with the finished canvas traditionally mounted on silk brocade borders.

Authentic 19th-century thangkas display age-consistent wear, pigment oxidisation, and subtle tone variations. Close inspection reveals hand-drawn grid lines beneath the paint layer, mineral texture, and hand-spun cotton weave rather than machine-printed patterns.

A framed thangka serves as a focal point when placed above a console table or desk within a neutral interior scheme. Framing protects the delicate textile surface while allowing the dark tones and geometric symmetry to contrast with contemporary furniture.

Display the framed painting away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent pigment fading and canvas warping. Ensure the picture frame uses UV-filtering glass and acid-free backing materials to safeguard the fabric.
