We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tallboy, also known as a highboy or tall chest, is a tall chest of drawers designed to maximise vertical storage space while occupying a compact footprint. Originating in the eighteenth century, these pieces typically feature multiple stacked drawers mounted on bracket feet or a raised stand.

Mid-eighteenth-century tallboys were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak. Fine examples feature hand-dovetailed drawer linings, pine or oak secondary timber, and cast brass swan-neck hardware.

Authentic eighteenth-century tallboys display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed back panels, and irregular wear consistent with age. Original brass hardware often leaves distinct outline marks or oxidisation shadows on the drawer fronts.

An antique mahogany tallboy can serve as a focal point in a master bedroom, dressing room, or hallway. Pairing dark mahogany with neutral wall tones, contemporary artwork, or modern lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition between historical and modern design elements.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement or fading. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the original finish.
