A Rare George V Silver Wine Funnel & Strainer

1920 - 1940
Description

A rather rare hallmarked silver wine funnel and strainer from the reign of George V. This excellent piece is made by the well regarded William Hutton and Sons Ltd. Silvermiths. The funnel is detachable from the strainer and has teardrop decoration to the tapering body. The spout of the funnel is curved to allow wine to spread across the decanter neck or side of the glass. Surface contact with air increases and this promotes oxygenation, bringing out the full flavours of the wine.

The strainer is rounded, with a wide mouth, reducing in size in stepped increments. The centre is pierced with attractive geometric holes. A wonderful, usable piece and good gift idea. Dimensions below.
