A Late 17th - Early 18th Century "Holster" Violin Case.

Description

A late 17th - early 18th century "holster" violin case ,in completely untouched original condition with original lock and hasp and hinges ,with a later brass carrying handle. The original interior lining has significantly deteriorated, these early examples of cases only had a single piece of fabric lining with the violin being wrapped in a cloth or a cloth bag and placed in the case with the bow squeezed in any gap available.

The case has a wonderful dry patina and is in good solid condition for its age.

Height - 14 cm tapering to 6.5 cm

Width - 24,5 cm tapering to 9.5 cm

Length - 79.5 cm
