Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This Large Victorian teak military chest was made circa 1875.
All his precious items, uniforms and personal pieces would be packed into this before going overseas.

The exterior is teak, a timber that is resistant to sea water, hard enough to withstand the demands of its carriage by ship, wagon or beast and the rough handling it would receive by the porters as it was moved.

The interior is lined in Camphorwood this gives off the delicate perfume that deter insects as it travelled through India and the Far East.
The brass corners and fittings are made to a higher specification than you normally see on such trunks. The corners and straps are screwed in, this is not the norm as usually they are nailed in, this points to the best grade of workmanship.

To each end is a large brass carrying handle, the lid has a pair of flush brass lifting handles.
The lid lifts to allow access into the vast storage area.
Imagine this as a centrepiece as a coffee table as well as an important storage option around your home.
