Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The footboard of conforming design with moulded top rail above turned spindles flanking a central panel above three carved Gothic roundels flanked by two plain panels. With wooden side supports which have cast iron brackets along with four cast iron and turned wooden wheel castors. Consists of headboard, footboard, a pair of wooden side rails, brackets and wheels. No base or mattress included.
It is slightly wider than a standard single bed at around 100cm, but will take a single staples sprung bed base – we have one for sale if required – to fit a single mattress. Or alternatively you can add wooden slats to the slots in the frame.
A double bed of similar construction and design, stamped "Gillow & Co Lancaster" was recently sold by Halls for £1800 (see 14th April 2021 Sale).
