Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wainscot chairs originating in the 17th century feature solid timber construction with a framed, panelled backrest often decorated with shallow carving. Revival versions produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries emulate these historical forms, incorporating turned supports, heavy stretchers, and relief carvings of botanical or geometric motifs.

These armchairs were predominantly constructed from solid European oak, chosen for its strength and grain pattern. Joinery methods typically relied on mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs, minimizing the need for metal fasteners.

Authentic period examples exhibit irregular tool marks, hand-carved details with subtle variations, and natural wear patterns consistent with age, particularly along armrests and footrests. Darkened wax accumulation in crevices and genuine timber oxidation are key indicators of age.

A substantial oak chair serves as a singular focal point when positioned in an entry hallway, beside a hearth, or within a dedicated reading corner. Pairing the dark timber with muted, neutral wall palettes creates visual contrast while highlighting the architectural silhoutte.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timbers luster. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and constant sunlight to prevent drying out, warping, or cracking.
